Blogging has not come easily these past months - sorry to leave any of you in the dark as to how we're doing. We ask you to extend us lots of grace and eventually (someday) we'll either blog more or get out an annual family letter updating you so that you can see God at work in our lives. Suffice it here to say that he is working (lots), things are fine (details forthcoming but only God knows when), and blogging can really be a foolish endeavor. There is a lot of wasted time online (I know, I'm one to waste it and working on doing that less). There are many blogs full of foolish "nothing", people spouting their opinions as though they were absolute truth (this goes for many well-meaning and good-sounding blogs as well as those obviously neither of those), and just plain drivel (this blog of mine probably falls into this latter category, truth be known). Anyway... at least I'm writing something. I figure three posts in six plus months can't be too bad in the wasteful arena.

So here's a thought with which to leave you. For context, I began reading Proverbs about two weeks ago, seeing as I have a noted need for and lack of wisdom in particular just now. I also decided to read all the introductory notes in my study bible prior to diving in and was struck by the description it gave of a fool. As expected there was discussion of wisdom which was contrasted naturally with folly, and there was description of different kinds of fools, ranging from the naive and uncommitted to arrogant scoffers. It concluded thus:

The fool is not mentally deficient;
He is self-sufficient,
Ordering his life as if there were no God.

Old & New

We've updated our "link" to our family website so it brings you here now. Click here to view the old site if you wish to peruse older posts. That blog is no longer functional (it stopped working at the end of September and upgrading to the newer version was something the computer king said we didn't want to do). Hope to begin blogging again soon.

Today

Everyday is it's own, a unique day, unlike though perhaps similar to the days before and the days to come. Some days are busier, some slower, but all of them given to us by God. Twenty-four hours, each and every day. Our family is one of faith - some, like my sister would call us "religious." Not sure what most people would call us but it doesn't really matter 'cause it's about us and our relationship with God. We think of ourselves as many things; among them as sinners, chosen by God not because of anything we've done but because of His grace, redeemed by Jesus' blood, and forever set apart to follow Him wherever He might lead us.

It's a life of faith - faith in a big God, who loves us, and who we really don't understand or know as well as we'd like to. He's a God (the only God) who has the power to solve our problems, or simply help us through them, or not, as He deems best. He's looking out for us, but it doesn't always look or feel it. We have to rely on Him and learn to trust Him, and that's what faith is about. Through it, day by day, "in the dailies" as I've heard or read it stated somewhere, He grows us. He shows us grace, He gives us what we really need (which isn't always what we think we need) and helps us to keep trusting, to keep on going, for another day.

So here we are, another day. Another opportunity to learn about who God is, what He's done, and who we are. And here's our new blog, to share in this process a little more publicly, though to what degree we haven't yet decided. Hopefully there will be musings, pictures, tidbits for the extended family to enjoy, and more. But mostly, it's just a place to talk about "today" whatever that might bring, whatever might be on our minds, whatever might tickle our fancy, and about whatever God might be teaching us about Him and His amazing grace.
